How To Fight A Mediocre Life

What exactly is a mediocre life and why is it necessary to fight it? A mediocre life or a life of a mediocrity is one that is ordinary and has nothing special about it. Mediocrity in the real sense of it depicts the lack of quality in something that could be as a result of poor effort or lack of the necessary knowledge for such a thing to contain the desired quality. Mediocrity prevents people from achieving their goals in life or even having the impact they were supposed to have in life.

Everyone was created with a definite purpose and reason but not everybody achieves this purpose because they just seem to be content with the little success that they have. Life is a continuous cycle and in constant motion that means an individual cannot afford to rest on his or her ‘laurels’ to present achievement because that is an invitation to mediocrity.

When human beings achieve a little bit of success, it is natural to want to keep living in that success and as a result get caught up in it leaving you in what is known as the ‘comfort zone’. Once this happens, mediocrity begins to set in and such individual might find him or herself gradually losing relevance in their immediate environment. People that have realized that you cannot afford to stop being successful have made it a point of duty to never get caught up in the success they enjoy. Rather, they build on each success they enjoy to keep getting more successful thus leaving no room for mediocrity.

The opposite of a mediocre life is a constantly successful life, which means you’re always on the ‘move’, looking for the next available opportunity to move forward or coming up with new ideas to be better at whatever you’re doing. Truth is life is a race and the main race is the race with yourself; you need to ensure that you do not slip into the comfort zone but rather, you are innovative and hardworking in order to make your life better.

Having examined what a mediocre life is, now let’s examine how to fight it so that you do not get caught up in the web of mediocrity:

  • Make a choice- success or mediocrity is a choice; when you fail or you succeed, what is the next step you take? Do you give up and decide to be content with what you have or do you break the ‘thin veil’ success might want to cast on you (or use that failure as a springboard to get the desired success?). The choice is obvious and choosing not to relent will drive mediocrity far away from you.

  • Take action- once you decide on your choice, then take action to follow it up. One major principle to driving mediocrity away is to take action and turn it into habits. Habits then develop into personal discipline, which then modifies one’s character.

  • Believe in yourself: you need to understand that greatness lies within all of us and you need to see the greatness in yourself else you might find yourself slipping into mediocrity and obscurity.

  • Set goals and achieve them- goals are like checkpoints that allow you to check your progress as an individual. Set goals starting with smaller ones and then moving on to bigger ones; this way, you’re constantly achieving success and making progress with your life.

  • Surround yourself with the right people- Ever heard of the line “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.” Well, the people around you will either help you fight mediocrity or drag you down into it with them. So check those people you surround yourself with; do they have a vision for their life? Are they looking to achieve something every day or have they just given up on life and satisfied with what they have? Watch out as they might have an important role to play in your fight against mediocrity.

Now that the important things about  a mediocre life have been elucidated with emphasis on how to fight it, then this is the point where you dust yourself up and steer your life in the right direction away from mediocrity. Don’t get caught up in past failure or success but just keep going and do not stop but keep driving mediocrity far away from you!

Often times I wonder why some persons that tend to have attain some certain height just lost their relevance. I think lack of self esteem also contributes to mediocrity. Some persons feel so inferior among their peers and as a result what they could do will gradually be diminishing out. Indeed one need to believe in his/herself to overcome mediocrity and also mingling with the right people also helps a lot. Great tips Ambition matters.
