How One Thing Can Change Your 2017 New Year

Most people wait for a new year to change something in their lives and when they decide to make this change, it takes about 21 days to go back to their old self. Even I have failed at this so many times and now that I have a better understanding of it, I can share my experience and perception for having a lasting change in your life and not just another year.

2016 was a challenging year for most of us. There were deaths that got our attention such as Mohammed Ali and the Prince. Another thing that has also distracted us was the anticipation of the nasty politician debate. Let us enter 2017 without the baggage from 2016. We cannot create a new life by re-living the past. It’s time to evolve our habits, actions, choices, behaviours and experiences. As you read this article about change, looking at your life a whole new way will empower you for lasting change. Lets get started!

The reason why most of us don’t have lasting change is because we have the habit of putting things off for a certain date. Just think about the conversations you have with yourself. I will stop smoking, drinking and over eating once the calendar year changes. Get rid of that mind set now! That kind of thinking only empowers procrastination and separates you from possibilities. If you want to change something in your life change it today not tomorrow. By delaying your new life for a new year, you are only interested in change but not committed to it. The chances of you failing at a new years resolution is very high when you are just interested in change. Go into 2017 with a new life’s resolution and not just another new year. Think about all the new years resolution you have not resolved and didn’t have any lasting change from it. You should have a PHD in failing at all the new years resolutions by now and you can learn a lot from your failures. Let this year be your year, go in with a new approach.

You can’t go into this New Year with the same choice’s, the same behaviours, and the same experiences. The one thing that will change everything for you is having a new mind for 2017. Most people go into a New Year with the same old mind that creates the same choices, behaviours, experiences and emotions. The only way to cross the river of change is to burn the bridge from your past habitual self. A new life comes from a new mind and a whole different way of looking at your life. Be the best version you can ever be and trust the process of change. Evolution is about transformation and we are all going through it.

Here is a set of questions that will challenge the status quo.

How can I create a new life?

Can I believe in a future that doesn’t exist yet?

What kind of choices will the new me make right now?

What positive directions can I move towards?

What can I learn about myself?

How can I change my reality?

Who in my life do I need to let go?

What can I let go to make room for new possibilities in my life?

How can I get out of my own way and trust the universe?

How can I raise my ambitions?

What needs to change in my life?

What am I neglecting in my life?

Who in history do I admire?

What is the greatest ideal I can become of myself?

These set of questions will challenge your thinking to create new ways of looking at your life. When we make a new choice we create a new behaviour, when we create a new behaviour we create a new experience and when we create a new experience we create a new emotion. This is what alters your reality. You must go to work on your mind because all of the possibilities can be created from the mind. You cannot put the same person in a new car with the same old experiences and expect change to happen.

The universe wants you to succeed more then you do. Raise your vibrations, raise your energy and raise your ambitions. This is not just a new year it’s a new life and a new reality. Remember the old you is comfortable and it fears change. The old you is going to try and hold you back from new possibilities.

The crazy thing is most of us are living an insane life by making the same choices that go against any new changes. Les Brown once said an undisciplined life is an insane life. I agree with this because it violates control over our own lives. How can we be free if we cannot control what we do? Habits come from a program in the mind that runs on auto pilot.

More than half of the time we don’t even decide to act on our habits it just happens subconsciously. Our brain circuits can tell which habits are formed from the repeated choices we make. Did you know when a habit is formed a connection happens in the brain. Your brain neurons connect with each other like a relationship and when a habit is broken those brain neurons break up with each other. This is why it is difficult to change a habit. This is crazy right? There is scientific brain scans that can prove this today.

So this would mean to have a new mind then you would need to create new connections in the brain first. The only way you can change is if you change the pattern in your mind. Let this change empower a new year with new experiences and a new way of thinking.

    “Who in my life do I need to let go?” Reading through this post has been so interesting but I saw myself gazing at this question for several minutes.     Interesting read! It doesn’t makes any sense making resolution for the new year while neglecting some paramount things that effect changes in your life. To me How can I raise my ambitions is my set question, I wanna raise my ambitions and work towards actualizing it.

    • You can raise your ambitions by neglecting procrastination. Take action on the things that produce for this year. happiness comes from the work you love to do. You only deny your ambitions by not doing the work that is aligned with your goals. Make this your year Joy.
