How To Unleash The Power Of Your Ambition

In the late Middle Ages the word ambition came from a Latin word. They described this effort as ambitio, which came from ambire, a verb meaning, “to go around obstacles”. This word was caused by a desire for honor or power. Eventually it came into English and French and is known now as ambition.

Human Drive

What lies under any great human achievement is the desire to create and express innovation. With this powerful drive we can help humanity move forward to evolve and do things that once were considered impossible. Just over 100 years ago it was impossible to fly us around the world until the Wright brothers challenged our beliefs. Orville Wright was a skilled courageous pilot that was nearly killed in 1908 when a propeller broke. Even confronting death didn’t stop this man from innovating. This great achievement has helped us connect with the world on a massive scale today. Thanks to the Wright brothers we are able to travel any where around the world today.

We now know that nothing is impossible from the capacity of our human drive. We are more resourceful then we think but we seem to place unnecessary limits on what the mind can accomplish. A way to tap into such a capacity is to use your imagination to go against conventional thinking.

We all have strong desires but without the discipline this power can be mislead to do the wrong things. One of the strongest desires a human possess is sexual energy. This desire is so powerful that even great leaders and professional athletes are caught with committing adultery. In the book Think And Grow Rich the author Nopleen Hill discusses how one can channel this sexual energy into great achievements. This is hard wired into our biology and such a desire should be harnessed with creativity.

Often we hear people say they are eager to have that new car or that new outfit but what if we were eager to design a better life. We can get the same pleasures out of life if our causes are aligned with what matters most to us.

“A deceived desire gives birth to sin but a desire harnessed into ambition gives birth to a new world”

Sense Of Urgency

In order to be successful at something you must have a sense of urgency that most of society doesn’t have. Too often we think we have all the time in the world to start something great. This could be no further from the truth because we all have a small window to become a legend at something. Some of the people I admire for their sense of urgency are 50 cent and Tupac. After 50 cent recovered from his bullet wounds he knew confronting his mortality could come back again. This initiated a sense of urgency to hurry up and go after what he wants out of life. Tupac was famous for recording multiple tracks in one sitting. From 1994 to 1996 he produced 12 albums, started 8 movies and he wrote 2 books of poetry. Thank god for his sense of urgency, he is now known as a legend even after his death.

“Without a sense of urgency desire loses it’s value” –Jim Rohn

Creative Expression

Why is it that we grow into creativity as a child but grow out of it as an adult? If you take a closer look at children what you will notice is there ingenuity to solve problems. A child doesn’t take the word No too personally but adults do. If you were to ask kids during kindergarten who can sing or dance all hands in the classroom would go up. If you fast forward 6 years and ask the same kids the same question, something fascinating happens here. The majority of these kids would have there hands down this time. This is because somewhere along the years they have been told they can’t sing or dance. This then becomes a belief that eventually is accepted by them. The reason why we grow out of creativity is because we are told we are wrong and the fear of being wrong does not encourage us to try new things.

“If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original”

Another way that kills our creativity is when we satisfy our curiosity. When we stop asking the right questions we become content with the wrong answers. We should always be as curious as Alice and George. Never satisfy your curiosity for it can bring you new wisdom and experiences to your life.

Great insight. I absolutely love what you said about sense of urgency and your reference to Tupac’s short but jam-packed career and accomplishments. What an eye-opener in terms of the length we have to become “legend” at something!

    • Its not that life is short but its often we squander most of it away with our time. Glad you took value away Chante.
